IC about Zenchō

For some, the sound of war drums never truly goes silent. The beat only beckons a new war with a different rhythm. Rather it be the rise of the Empire, the freedom of Doma, or the spiritual war that rages on, the drums continue to beat. For some, it is the heartbeat that forever serves the balance.

The understanding that from Darkness there is Light and only through Chaos does balance hold meaning. Such is the way of Zencho.Long before the fires of war consumed the great mountains of Othard, there was a hidden place of hope and defiance. A clan not born of race but instead forged in blood bonds and rituals of ancient magics and martial arts. A clan made of ronin, Steppe warriors, Hyur, Lupin, miqo'te, and any who sought out the truth and were able to pass the Trial of The Mountain. A clan who learned to harness the darkness within, the darkness beyond, and wield it to protect others. A clan that was rumored to have been wiped out.

At least one survivor, Mishi, has taken on the mantle to restore the heart of what made Zencho strong. The mountain may be scorched but it’s secrets and oaths, remain beating like the drums of balance within Mishi. She took her rewards for leading the Othardian Resistance and built a haven within Shirogane. A haven that has taken six long years to finally complete. Within this haven she offers not only sanctuary for those with Tam’ Shi eyes, but also guidance. The guidance needed to harness the power that is bestowed upon them, and to wield it toward their true purpose.Their fundamental belief is that every soul, every being, has two opposite but potential harmonious parts. A wild soul (Ara-Mitama) and a tranquil soul (Nigi-Mitama). When the two parts are in balance, it brings prosperity and fortune. When they are not, it brings ruin and despair. Zencho long ago understood that in order for balance to exist there had to be those willing to allow their wild soul to be free so that others could maintain their tranquil soul. They understood that balance does not necessarily mean peace and that darkness does not always mean evil. In this way, Zencho was made into four parts. The wild souls were made of warriors and battle shamans. The tranquil souls made of spiritual shamans and villagers.

Zencho in its modern form serves to restore and maintain balance by hunting darkness when it escapes into our realm. Be it oni, yokai, primals, voidsent, or that which lies beyond the living viel, Zencho will stand against it. Zencho also will stand against all peoples who would sway balance one way or the other, while protecting the balance and the innocence within it. Like Zencho of the past, it is built with four harmonious parts. Military, Scholar, Spiritual, and Community.Zencho aims to find, prepare and teach those with Tam’shi eyes how to take The Trial of The Mountain and become part of the Brotherhood. Likewise, it looks for those who can aid the Brotherhood by becoming Hi’kari and acting as anchors and healers. Zencho also seeks those who have a craving to explore, learn, research, and build things so that Zencho is fully prepared for the battles they will enter. Likewise, they seek those who can gather, cook, perform, and simply be. Reminding those of Zencho of the life they fight to protect.

Summary

Founded: Roughly 2000 years ago during the Fifth Umbral EraLocation: The Mountain, Nagxia, OthardClan Races: Miqo’te, Lupin, Raen, Xaela, HyurDialect: Tao’shi Language. A muddle version of Xaela, Doman with the hard sounds soften how a miqo’te with fangs might speak either.Known For:
The Mountain and the people of The Mountain including Zencho were spoken of with a high level of superstition and folklore. Many Xaela who were cast out of their tribes ( like The Taken) or people who were considered ‘cursed’ were often told to go to the fork in the One River and then wade through the swamplands of Nagxia. If the Kami or their gods found favor in them they would be granted entry to their hidden haven, never to be seen again. The truth is however, that often those of the brotherhood would sense the aether awaking in those wandering the swamps and offer them sanctuary in one of the lower villages until such time as they could take The Trial of The Mountain.

The History of Zenchō

Summary | Origin | The Ju’urra | Before The Fall

Origin Story

The origin of Zencho starts in the early part of the Fifth Umbral Era with the most unlikely people. A group of vagabond Miqo’te would form a tribe and eventually a clan. The legend tells of half-breed, Seeker, and Keeper Miqo’te, named Tao, and how his encounter with a voidsent changed his life and the world forever.

It is told that as a young teen kit, Tao had run away from his forest home as it was burning and slowly became nothing but desert. He became a wanderer, a vagabond who lived off the land and whatever small tasks he could find. During his wanderings near, he encountered a great beast attacking a young boy. It was a beast unlike anything he had seen before and yet he felt a sort of understanding. Tao had always had a unique gift, he could feel the aether around him and especially voidal aether, though at the time he didn’t know that was what it was. The creature was poised to attack the boy and Tao lifted his bow and shot it. The arrow hit it’s mark but the wound held almost as quickly as the arrow flew through it. The beast’s attention, for a moment, was drawn to Tao. The boy fled into the forest and the beast came for Tao.The speed of the beast was unlike anything Tao had seen nor heard of. It was upon him as quickly as a heartbeat. With little effort, it tossed him like a twig and carved into his body with its claws. It was poised to pounce and then stopped, screaming and in confusion. Tao’s blood had splattered up it and was causing it a sort of pain. Tao’s rage, fear, and pain took hold of him as he raised his bow again. This time the arrow dripping with his blood flew through the air to hit its mark. The wound did not heal but this time burned and festered. Tao’s blood caused weakness and so he defeated the great beast. He had taken its fur hide as a trophy when the boy returned with others to hunt the beast and found Tao instead. In horror and awe, their spears turned their tips toward Tao as they called him the monster. Tao fled.

As Tao began to wander again, he laced his weapons with his blood. He found it did nothing really to beastmen, people or animals. It was only powerful against creatures that were similar to the beast. Tao also realized that when he defeated something, the energy or aether did not dissipate as it should. Instead, he inherited it. Slowly but surely Tao began to change. Tao’s once white fur had begun turning black. His once golden eyes were turning red and the overabundance of magics split his tail in two. He was no longer welcome anywhere he went. Called a monster, a demon, or worse, he felt destined to be alone. And then the world began to change too. It got colder and great oceans began to freeze. During his trek to find warmth he stumbled across a small group of Seeker and Keeper Miqo’tes. For one reason or another, perhaps the cold, the Miqo’te were not afraid of him, and yet they understood they would survive if they remained together. Under the leadership of a Seeker called M’aro, they traveled across the frozen wastelands until they came upon a land covered in mist and mountains. The mountains grew like pillars into the sky. There was warmth here. There was life here. They began to set up camp.

M’aro began to feel that Tao’s presence in this new world would bring a curse upon them. The warmth had made their hearts cold. M’aro began trying to kill Tao, even setting traps for him during hunts. M’aro was not entirely wrong, there was a curse upon them, but it was not Tao’s doing. The land they had found was already inhabited. Not by beings of flesh and bone but rather of shadow, and magic beyond their understanding. One day such a shadow came to the camp. It felt like the beast Tao had already fought and yet looked like something never seen before. It attacked and Tao easily defeated it. This was all that M’aro needed, his proof that Tao was a demon and that more would come because of him. Tao’s rage, pain, and anger lingered and he lashed out. He cut off M’aro’s tail, ears, and two fingers. Tao had unwittingly defeated the Nunh and become the leader of a weak and mismatched tribe.Tao lead them up and into the mountains, into the caves for shelter. He refused to live in the old ways, divided by race and blood. So he made them take new blood oaths. Binding them in oath, ritual, and sharing of their blood to form a new kind of tribe, a clan. Those who followed him understood he was not a demon, but could defeat demons. He was not their savor but an omen and so they took it as their name. They were the clan of Omen. Zencho.
